“Dear Alice”

“Dear Alice,

I hope this letter finds you well. Alice there is no easy way to say this so I’m going to come right out with it.

I’m gay, and I’m in love with William, and by the time you get this I will be on a clipper to The South Indies. William’s uncle has an estate there where they grow coffee and William and I will be running it.

Don’t try to follow me, especially with our baby, there really is no point.

I suggest you go to Jaap Marteens and fall upon his mercy. That offer he made you might still stand and I think he will be a good father to the little one.

I’m sorry about this, I know it was not what you planned. I didn’t plan it either, but that’s just the way things happen sometimes.

Your loving husband,
